Book description

The German Imperial Army was the first to introduce camouflaged uniforms in world history. At first green and feldgrau tunics appeared in the late 19th and early 20th century. Later on the Wehrmacht started to adopt multiple color camouflage schemes for their uniforms and fieldgear. From the early 30's till the end of the Second World War, many patterns were invented, evaluated and used in combat. Now for the first time a detailed overview appears on the subject, covering all aspects of Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe camouflage.

This long awaited addition to ‘Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS’ explores and explains the camouflage clothing and equipment used by the regular German forces.

As an indispensable guide for historians, collectors and military modellers, this book finally resolves the confusion surrounding many of these patterns and garments and establishes a complete and concise system of identification and terminology. A comparative section with post-war fabrications is added as an instrument for authentication and idetification.

More than 10 different camouflage patterns are covered, including the super rare carbon overprint and Leibermuster Authentic items: zeltbahns, helmet covers, caps, smocks, winter clothing, anti gas outfit, body aprons, tents and more are shown in over 580 full color and contemporary black and white photographs, in both multiple view and detail shots. Most original World War II pictures have never been published before!

As a history teacher Werner Palinckx has studied military history for many years. Having been a collector for over 20 years, specializing in Wehrmacht camouflage, he gained a lot of expertise and has now established his reputation as a leading authority in the field.

The well-known camouflage authority Dr.Jean Borsarello, author of many books related to this subject, was so kind to offer his help, expertise and assistance for the completion of this book.
