E. Reitz Werkschutz

The E.Reitz Werkschutz was responsible for the security on the factory compounds. They checked who entered and left the buildings, they were also responsible for fire fighting and evacuation in case of a bombardment. At night they had guard duty to watch over the vast stocks of uniforms and raw materials that were present at the factory and depots. Many of the Werkschutz members were also member of one of the many paramilitary organisations of the Flemish collaboration, such as Vlaamsche Wacht, DeVlag, Dietse Militie/Zwarte Brigade or SS-Vlaanderen.

Three uniformed members of the E.Reitz Werkschutz at the back of the entrance gate of the main building in Merksem. The man standing on the right is wearing a belt buckle, unfortunately the picture wasn’t sharp enough to make out if he is actually wearing a Reitz Werkschutz buckle.

A member of the E.Reitz Werkschutz wearing a great coat with collar insignia, peaked cap and belt buckle of one of the Flemish collaboration units.
